Cendrawasih Bay National Park is located in New Guinea and is the largest marine national park in Indonesia. National Park which was inaugurated by the Minister of Forestry in 1993, has an area of 1,453,500 ha, consisting of land and coastal areas (0.9%), the mainland islands (3.8%), coral reefs (5.5% ), and the waters of the oceans (89.8%).

Cendrawasih Bay has 14 species of protected flora. Most consist of casuarina trees. Moreover, in this national park there are also 36 species of birds, in which 18 of them are protected. There are also 196 species of molluscs, 209 species of fish, and some turtles (hawksbill, green, leatherback, hawksbill and pseudo). This region is also a comfortable place for whales and dolphins. Both types of animals can live in peace here because there is no whalers or dolphins, and still many food provided for them Cendrawasih Bay.

Coming to Cendrawasih Bay, visitors can enjoy a variety of objects that are scattered all over the park. If you want to do a marine tourism, Nusrowi Island, Yoop Island, and Island Mioswaar can be an attractive option. In the waters of these islands, visitors can enjoy the beauty of the underwater colorful and rich objects that tease the eye with a dive. Administratively, the National Park is located in the district of Manokwari, West Papua, and Paniai, Papua Province, Indonesia.

Access

Cendrawasih Bay National Park can be reached via Manokwari or from Nabire (Capital Paniai). From Manokwari to the National Park which is about 95 km can be reached in several ways. First, visitors can use a motor boat that comes three times a week with a 2.5 hour long journey. Second, visitors can also use the outboard motor takes about 6-10 hours, or use the ship pilot PELNI with long travel between 18-20 hours. PELNI ships usually stop to this national park once a month. Third, visitors can also ride Twin Otter aircraft owned by Merpati Nusantara Cesna owned or MAF. However, after air travel, travel must proceed with outboard motors suit 3-4 hours.

Meanwhile, if through Nabire, visitors will travel a distance of 38 km to reach Cendrawasih Bay National Park. From here, visitors can use a motor boat and takes about 2-6 hours (depending on the type of motor boat).

Accommodation and Other Facilities

This region is not yet available in tourism facilities such as Dive Center, inn, or resort. However, for visitors who want to stay can use the cottage BTNTC Rumberpon District or in people's homes.
